theatre for children is operated and supported by volunteer members of the Nine O'Clock Players Auxiliary (NOP) who present two exceptional stage plays each year that are chosen from classic children's literature and include a full complement of dancing, singing and special effects. Productions are offered to school groups as part of their curricula and to families on weekends.
Teachers Guides that are written by the Nine O'Clock Players give teachers and children the opportunity to discuss the characters, meaning and details of the plays and introduce the joy of live theatre to young theatergoers.
Approximately one third of the children who attend the productions are economically or physically disadvantaged, and the NOPs provide both bus transportation and admission free-of-charge to these youngsters. After each weekend show, young audience members are treated to a special meet-and-greet where the cast signs autographs and have their photos taken.
